Jackson is very much alive

Posted in We are not a rock band with tags , on October 30, 2009 by Montagano

Kap BambinoThis tune got brought to my attention by an old pal of mine today – and it made me instantly reach for my computer to share it with you guys. It’s Jackson’s beastly remix of Kap Bambino’s Batcaves. It’s slow, sluggish, moody and eery – just what we need on a weekend like this! Now – I know NOTHING about the Jackson person – is anyone able to shed some light? Does he/she/it make more stuff like this? I need to know!! Answers on a postcard please.

If you don’t already know, Kap Bambino are up tempo electronic marauders – expect to see them appearing on WANARB in the not so distant future…

HazMat's turntable seemed a little chrome-o-e-o-e

So whilst checking out the La Roux remixes, I came across a couple of other nice remixes to please your ears.

Jack Beats has done a remix of Passion Pit, which as with pretty much anything Jack Beats, is fat.

Passion Pit – Little Secrets (Jack Beats Remix)

Yacht (who’re on DFA) have remixed WANARB favourites Phoenix, and given it a cracking bassline.

Phoenix – Armistice (Yacht Remix)

Enjoy!

With everyone in my facebook friends list getting married/engaged/settling down/having kids/growing up, we have decided to make you a mixtape with a wedding theme (yes, ALL compilations should be called mixtapes, even if they are mp3s in an order on a blog).

URBAN NERDS & FIESTA’S HOUSE OF HORRORS WEEKENDER!

Stuck for something to do this weekend in London? How is that possible – there’s LOADS going on! You’ve probably noticed but we’re getting all halloweened up…

So if you’re wondering where to go, or are annoyed that lots of events may have sold out, Urban Nerds have got a HUGE Halloween party going on. They’re doing a whole weekender at The Macbeth in Shoreditch on Friday 30th & Saturday 31st October, going all out on the production and completely transforming the place into a massive Haunted House.

Playing at the event amongst many others is a dude called Noisses – a breakbeat, 2-step and dub champion who is fresh on the party scene and set to raise hell at the House of Horrors weekender with shuddering bass of the window shattering kind. He’s been kind enough to provide us with a mix for you guys to download! Not bad for a guy who was apparently raised by pigeons in East London. (Spooky)

Get your £10 weekend wristbands for entry to BOTH nights here.

Methinks good times shall be had. See you on the dance floor…

So guys and gals it’s that time of year again! You know the time where you give sweets to kids? Or you get some nicely cracked Tesco’s economy eggs in your face. (That’s if you’re lucky, I know someone who actually had some sort of excrement rubbed across their door, eww wrong wrong wrong!)

So, I thought who better to feature in on our Halloween run up than the masters of the dark, Chris Cunningham and David D James (otherwise known as Aphex Twin). And when I say masters I truly mean masters, when these two collaborate it’s like we little humans are treated to a little taster of what the burning ashes of Damien’s lare would look like.

Mr and Mrs Thing enjoyed the beach

It should come as no surprise that because La Roux has had a new single out, there are remixes aplenty. I’m not complaining, oh no, I enjoy the plethora of remixes attached to Sgt June Ackland’s daughter’s releases – and this is no exception.

From this latest batch of remixes i’ve procured three for you lucky lucky people.

Chateau Marmont, (who’ve been remixing for Midnight Juggernauts, Royksopp and Chromeo to name but a few), Boy 8-Bit (fresh of his Florence & the Machine Remix) and WhateverWhatever (who’re from New York and don’t like Kid Rock).

La Roux Quicksand (Chateau Marmont Remix)

La Roux – Quicksand (Boy 8-Bit Remix)

La Roux – Quicksand (WhateverWhatever Remix)

Ghosts ‘N’ Stuff (Feat. Rob Swire)

As we’re in the run up to Halloween, We thought it would be a good idea to have some ‘spooky’ inspired posts – so I’m gonna set the ball rolling with the video to Ghosts ‘N’ Stuff by Deadmau5.

Originally released last October this new version features the vocals of Pendulum‘s Rob Swire. I really liked the original (which is instrumental) and was at first unsure of the vocals as they have that generic commercial house sound to them, but the more I listen to it the more they grow on me.

The video is great too, it doesn’t take itself seriously and really captures the euphoria of the track. I would love to post a couple of MP3s but I know for a fact that he’s been ranting about people doing just that so the video will have to do. Deadmau5 is currently touring North America promoting his new album ‘For Lack of a Better Name’.

Chromeo get cleaned up on Yo Gabba Gabba

Posted in Video, We are not a rock band with tags , , , on October 27, 2009 by maxwinnipeg

Now I’ve never been the cleanest of types, (yeah that’s right I don’t always wash after my loo trips… But sometimes you have no choice in the matter, i.e. portaloos – so you can all wipe that shocked smug look off your faces).

But after this cute little lathering it up fest I shall always be keeping it ‘nice and clean’.

It’s official Chromeo can do no wrong, and Yo Gabba Gabba is the coolest kids TV show in town. (we’ll just forget about the fact that the Tings Tings also made a little guest appearance too, as that would definitely taint my rose-tinted view on my new favourite Nickelodeon show!)

WIN: Swedish House Mafia tickets!

press_shot1

The Swedish House Mafia are taking over Brixton Academy for an entire weekend, and thanks to the lovely people at Cream we have a pair of tickets for their November 6th show to give away! The combined force of Steve Angello, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso seems to be totally unstoppable at the moment, after a Monday residency at Pacha Ibiza this summer, releasing a whole host of ridiculously good tunes and generally just unleashing housey-hell whenever they play.

To win simply answer:

Who is the honourary 4th member of the SHM?

email your answer to wearenotarockband@gmail.com

For an idea of what’s in store, check out this set at Amnesia recorded by Radio 1 a couple of months back.
