John Tejada in an Unstable Condition

Posted in After-party, Minimal, Techno with tags , , , on May 31, 2011 by Montagano

Hailing from America (but born in Vienna, Austria), veteran producer John Tejada marks his first release on Kompakt with a real 7am floor burner. It’s nice to see Kompakt releasing a track like this, it’s been a while since they’ve put out some serious techno…

My pick off the EP, ‘Unstable Condition’, is a lazy, ethereal plodder with playful soft synths underpinned by punchy kick drums. Tejada has a knack for making tunes that have a soft feel about them, yet at the same time they manage to cause the necessary level of confusion for the discerning late night party goers. The EP is out on Kompakt now – click here to listen to it in full.

Here’s a classic track he made a few years ago. I’d still gladly play it these days.

Into The Valley by Classixx remixed by Julio BashmoreWell, what can you say about this? It’s been apparent for quite some time that 2011 is Julio Bashmore’s year. Who doesn’t like him at the moment? No-one, that’s who.

I’ve been waiting so patiently for this remix after spotting Classixx tweeting about how amazing it is. And it is really great. So just listen, and enjoy. Then download it for FREE! Win!

BLAH BLAH BLAH

Das GlowI first heard Das Glow back in 2007 when Weiss Gaz came out and, whilst I proper loved that tune, after all it is filthy as hell; I will hold my hand up and say that I kinda forgot all about him. Until the other day that is. For some reason the tune popped into my head so I sought him out on Facebook, had a listen and clicked ‘like’ on the page.

Boy am I glad I did because this morning a link popped up to a new mix called Blah Blah Blah. It didn’t have a tracklisting just some random lyrics, but he promised he’d post one at midday Berlin time. So I listened to it anyway and honestly, it’s SICK. There was one tune I kept coming back to, knowing I knew it but the artist and name was frustratingly escaping me. I love mixes like that.

Tracklisting is after the jump, see if you can guess which one it was.

Serge Gainsbourg Remixed by Feadz

Posted in Bootleg / Mash-up, remix/cover with tags , , , , , on May 25, 2011 by rachaelwilliams

Serge GainsbourgSaying you don’t like Serge Gainsbourg is a bit like saying you don’t like Fleetwood Mac. Basically, you’re wrong. I can accept that some people may not have got around to listening to him yet, and that’s fine. But, seriously, rectify that.

To the French, Gainsbourg is a national hero. So it’s only fitting that Gallic label Ed Banger Records have got their filthy paws on one of his tracks. Feadz has remixed “Flash Forward”, a track from 1976’s L’Homme a Tete de Chou, for Ed Banger’s ‘Bootleggers With Respect’, where artists take classic tracks and remix them.

You can check out the other remixes done by Busy P and DJ Mehdi respectively over at the Busy P blog.

Benoit & Sergio – Let Me Count The Ways

Posted in New Music with tags , , , , on May 24, 2011 by rachaelwilliams

Let Me Count The Ways by Benoit & SergioThe wonderful Benoit & Sergio are set to release their latest track Let Me Count The Ways next Monday on Spectral. They self-describe their music as “teenage romance” and you get the impression that whilst it’s meant somewhat tongue in cheek there’s also an element of truth there. There’s something about the music that really resonates. It’s something quite down-tempo, something beautiful and something really quite lonely. Benoit & Sergio specialise in the type of tunes that play when you’re that exquisite level of smashed and makes you float around the dancefloor, eyes fluttering.

Let Me Count The Ways has been doing the rounds lately, mostly courtesy of Seth Troxler who included it on his recent Essential Mix for Pete Tong (I highly recommend reading the BBC page  for this which describes recording the mix in Jamie Jones’ lounge, waking up his housemates after a heavy weekend with loud techno!)

I get the feeling this will be one of those tunes which will grow on you until you adore it. You can listen to samples of Let Me Count The Ways over at the Spectral Sound site.

Greco-Roman Label Mix For Trax Magazine

Posted in mix with tags , , , , , , , , , , on May 20, 2011 by rachaelwilliams

Greco Roman mix for Trax Mag AprilSo this gem of a mix by Joe Goddard & Full Nelson came out in April and I’ve been listening to it pretty regularly since. I’ve totally fallen in love with it; it’s very much a case of the more I listen, the more I like. So imagine my surprise when I check the SoundCloud page today and spy it’s only had a pitiful 230 or so plays and only 65 downloads. What’s up people?! From the Casetteboy opening to Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs downplaying it with beautiful track Critisize, to Four Tet’s luscious remix of Apple Bobbing by Joe Goddard to the inclusion of Golden Axe by the awesomely-named Mums Of Death, this is simply brilliant.

Drums Of Death is actually featured on this mix a few times, but it’s really his pairing with Mumdance that’s his standout moment here. In fact, despite this mix showcasing only a few acts from the Greco-Roman stable, it flows wonderfully and has some real headphones moments. Do this mix justice and download it now.
