Durrr presents: Breakbot and Classixx

Posted in Club Night, electro, French electro with tags , , , , , , , on November 30, 2011 by rachaelwilliams

WELL DONE DURRR. We’re big fans of both Breakbot and Classixx here at We Are Not A Rockband. So putting them both on the same night is a big win in our books. Granted it’s a Thursday, but it’s also payday, and it’s also the first day of December which, as everyone knows, is the only month you can get away with being permanently drunk (or so my friends tell me).

PLUS there’s a secret live act. Who could it be?! Nobody knows! This is exciting, no?

And so because there’s never a good reason NOT to post either of these tracks, let’s pretend that you actually need convincing to come along this Thursday 1st December 2011 to Village Underground in Shoreditch but hey we both know you’re already scrolling down for the ticket link.

Posted in Deep House, remix/cover with tags , , , , , , on November 29, 2011 by rachaelwilliams

Culprit - M A N I K - She Watches MeI appreciate this is a bit havin’ it for a Tuesday night but I couldn’t resist this opportunity to play you all the full length version of The Revenge’s remix of M A N I K’s latest track on Culprit, She Watches Me. This definitely makes me wish it was a weekend and I was on my way out….. how many days until then again? Have a listen but don’t blame me if it makes you want to go out dancing.

Londoners are in luck because they actually can go out dancing to this on the weekend, as The Horse And Groom Presents The Revenge playing a three hour set this Saturday 3rd December. It’s only £4 on Resident Advisor as well. BOOM.

Till Von Sein – Non Existent Love

Posted in Deep House, Tech, Video with tags , , , , , , , , , , on November 29, 2011 by rachaelwilliams

Till Von Seine LTDI’m a bit late to the party with this Till Von Sein track, as the video has been floating about since the beginning of the month. But hey, I just saw it this morning so there’s a chance you maybe missed it too. Non Existent Love is the first single from debut album LTD (Living The Dream apparently) and features Tiger Skin, Lazarus and Meggy…… and a topless chick in a Venetian mask. Oh yes, I know how to spoil you on a Tuesday afternoon.

Have a listen to the rest of the album (the track with Catz N Dogz is really quite something) as he’s been kind enough to post all the tracks on his YouTube channel, or if your place of work is one of those pesky types to block distracting sites like that, try listening to a little mix he made of all the tracks for his Soundcloud.

Eats Everything – Essential Mix 26/11/11

Posted in House, mix, We are not a rock band with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on November 27, 2011 by Knockturnal

Regarded by many as one of the break through artists of 2011 – Eats Everything (aka Dan Pearce) has enjoyed such a fantastic year on the underground house scene, with releases on labels Pet Recordings and Dirty Bird riding high in the Beat Port charts, it came as no surprise he would be supplying an Essential Mix some time soon.

Recorded live in his home town of Bristol in front of a crowd of 1000 at In:Motion, a converted skate park with a network of warehouses, which features killer line ups every weekend and has been dubbed “Bristol’s Underground Music Season” (I want to go).

Society Sessions presents Terry Farley vs Robert Owens

Posted in 80's, Acid house, Club Night, Society with tags , , , , , on November 24, 2011 by 4th level zombie

After two successful Society Sessions in the past two months, we bring you a third installment that is our biggest session to date. The last two parties in Dalston’s Basement has seen the charismatic, soulful Robert Owens team up with a different guest DJ and this third assignment will see him square up to his toughest opponent to date! Terry Farley!

Terry Farley, a man who needs no introduction but i’ll try anyway, is an acid house legend from Slough. This is a man who used to bathe in a tin bath and has been through more musical movements than Beethoven. DJ, founder of Boy’s Own magazine and then head of Junior Boys Own Records, Terry Farley is a monumental catalyst in House music past, present and future.

Our last two events has seen Dalston Superstore transformed into east London’s take on Ron Hardy’s Muzic Box, with an untouchable atmosphere and the party people jackin’ to the sounds of 80′s Chicago house ‘til the small hours. Nowhere else can you dance in a cosy basement club with Robert Owens singing and dancing along with you. It may be a Thursday night but the weekend most definitely starts here – BRING DOWN THE WALLS!

THURSDAY 24TH
NOVEMBER 2011 | 9:00PM – 2:30AM
DALSTON SUPERSTORE | 117 KINGSLAND ROAD, LONDON, E8 2BP

FREE ENTRY ARRIVE EARLY!

Still not excited by this heavyweight clash? Well thankfully the Class of 808 boys put together a little warmup mix early in the week and they will also be supporting these two behemoths of House music this evening.

Alpines and Maya Jane Coles cover Carly Simon

Posted in Cover, remix/cover with tags , , , , , , , , , on November 23, 2011 by rachaelwilliams

Alpines and Maya Jane Coles - WhyCarly Simon isn’t one of those artists that you wouldn’t necessarily to admit to liking to but Why is an absolute ’80s classic. So it’s great that someone’s decided to remind of that fact. It’s just a bit of shame that this cover by Alpines and Maya Janes Coles kind of misses the mark somewhat. No matter though, because it gives us the opportunity to point out this isn’t the first time Miss Coles has got her mitts on Alpines beats, as she remixed their track Cocoon under her dubstep alias Nocturnal Sunshine way way back in July. And that *is* a blinder.

Slowpoke Turns One

Posted in Club Night, Deep House, mix with tags , , , , , , on November 23, 2011 by rachaelwilliams

Slowpoke 1stBirthday FlyerHappy Birthday to London night Slowpoke who celebrate their first birthday this Friday with a free Hackney Road loft party featuring Inxec [Crosstown/Culprit/Leftroom] who is playing both a live set and is djing, and Puente and Rösch [No 19] supporting, plus Slowpoke residents. Anyone who gives out presents such as these on their own birthday are people worth knowing about.

For those not in the know, Slowpoke describe themselves as “a slowed down, low down journey through house, funk and techno”. They’re so fucking selfless that they even claim they “make no exceptions when it comes to sound, programming and setting the mood to help ensure no-one goes home alone.” Well. There you go kids. Shit-hot music and super-sexy atmosphere.

Previous guests have included Maceo Plex (for his UK debut no less), Droog, James Teej, Andrew Weatherall, Slow Hands, Death On The Balcony…. you get the gist.

Check out this recent set by Sishi Rösch that the Slowpoke gang posted to tempt you along on Friday. It’s a monster, mind-blowing set from what seems to be the world’s favourite nightclub, The Electric Pickle in Miami. There’s some obvious crowd-pleasers but a tonne of other tracks you’ll be desperately scouring the net for afterwards.

Sishi Rösch - Brett Johnson´s “Bang the Box” Tour @ The Electric Pickle (Miami,US) – 2011-09-23

When WANARB Met: Lula Circus

Posted in Club Night, House, Interviews with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on November 18, 2011 by rachaelwilliams

Lula Circus Play FabricTomorrow night sees Italian duo Lula Circus play the UK for the first time in Room 3 of London super-club Fabric, with Dyed Soundorom heading up Room 1 and dOP playing live, brightening up what would otherwise be a pretty dreary late November night. You probably think you don’t know who Lula Circus is but if you’ve been downloading any house mixtapes this Summer/Autumn or being going out clubbing…. at all, then chances are you’ve heard them. More likely than not you’ve danced your disco socks off to Pezzner’s remix of Pumpin’ Groovin’ Movin’ (it’s alllllllll about that beautiful build up) and proper loved it. If you’re a fan of LA-based record label Culprit, and you read our recent review of their fantastic compilation Above The City, then you’re probably aware of who Lula Circus are. Basically, you already like them, you just didn’t know, which means you should *definitely* go and buy a ticket to see them play tomorrow.

We caught up with them to see how excited they were about their UK debut…

FabricLive.60 Launch Night 18/11/11

Posted in Club Night, mix, We are not a rock band with tags , , , , , , , , on November 15, 2011 by Knockturnal

Cast your mind back to the 1990′s, it was a much simpler time, and in Reading, my home town, a man named Stuart Price was in a music class at Maiden Erleigh Secondary School getting taught how to play a casio keyboard. Little did the music teacher know he had a profound impact on young Stuart. So much so that when he went on to form a band, he named it after the keyboard he was taught on, and gave thanks to the music teachers and his inspiration on the album’s sleeve. The bands name was ‘Les Rhythm Digitales’ and they sound like this.

Stuart didn’t find much fame on it’s release in 1999, and in 2000, a year when the Black Eyed Peas headlined the Carling Tent at Reading festival, Stuart’s band packed out the Radio One tent and tore it up with his key-tar. Astonishing stuff. You had to be there (yes, of course I was there).

It wasn’t till a little later in the 2000′s that Les Rhythm found fame and possibly fortune thanks to ‘Jacques your Body’ and that bloody Citroen advert with the Transformers. Still, Stuart was making a name for himself as a DJ, under the moniker ‘The Thin White Duke’ or ‘Jacques Lu Cont’. The former moniker made an excellent ‘Mr Brightside’ remix which thanks to John Winfield’s DJ skills in 2004/5 made my final year of Uni.

Did you know he’s also written songs for Madonna, New Order, The Killers, Scissor Sisters, Kylie? No, neither did I.

I digress, he did a fucking awesome FabricLive cd in 2003 (#09) and returns to the decks this Friday 18th November as Jacques Lu Cont to headline the Fabriclive.60 launch party, along with Brodinski, Gesaffelstein (Live), Gingy & Bordello, Stopmakingme, DJ Falcon, Jaymo & Andy George, Maxxi Soundsystem and more. For more info and to buy tickets head over to the official site here.
