Uffe Christensen

Due for release on Pets Recordings in a few weeks is beautiful EP from Uffe, Colors Outside. Hailing from Copenhagen, the Danish Uffe Christensen is now based in Amsterdam and is set to hold a dear place in your daytime music heart.

The title track, a light-hearted, bouncy affair, heavy with summery samples, serves to bliss you out ready for the somewhat darker but no less stunning I’ll Leave Soon. Its melancholic vocals and slow build-up ensure its place as the strongest track on the release. Meanwhile the ‘Just Leave’ remix of I’ll Leave Soon comes courtesy of Pets Recordings bosses Catz N Dogz. That’s definitely a grower, so give it a chance as it seems to sit quite apart from the tone of the other tracks. It retains the vocals but darks it out further giving a midnight feeling as opposed to the twilight party sentiment of the original. Finally, closer When The Sun Rose lets you get lost in its chugging bassline, folk tinged vocals and twiddly acid noises.

It’s difficult to pin-point exactly what makes Colors Outside so captivating. Its wealth of influences, mix of genres and experimental samples definitely make it must for getting through these rain-drenched days and pretending it’s actually sunny.

It’s worth checking out the video for I’ll Leave Soon, and not just for gorgeous Polish model Kornelia Strzelecka lazing about and dancing in a envy-inducing pastoral setting…

Colors Outside by Uffe is released on Pets Recordings on 7th May 2012.

Posted in Deep House, House, mix, Warehouse Party, We are not a rock band with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on February 2, 2012 by rachaelwilliams

Droog play Potty Mouth warehouse party

This Saturday sees LA’s Culprit Records head honchos Droog go up British partner in crime Inxec in a special back to back set at one of our favourite London warehouse parties, Potty Mouth. Completing the bill is Danish deep house master Noir and rising Polish stars Catz N Dogz and We Are Not A Rockband’s very own Hazmat; giving what must surely be the most hotly anticipated international lineup across the capital this weekend.

And if just the mere thought of it all wasn’t enough to whet your appetite, Droog have only gone done a Potty Mouth warm-up mix! With tracks from Subb-an, Gavin Herlihy and Amirali, you’ll be popping on your dancing shoes super-early out of sheer excitement. Tracklisting after the jump.

Droog – Potty Mouth Warm-up Mix

Potty Mouth will be from 9pm to 6am in the heart of Hackney at Netil House in London Fields. Tickets are on sale over at Resident Advisor.

Potty Mouth Pulls It Out The Bag With February Line-Up

Posted in Club Night, Deep House, House, Parties, Tech, Warehouse Party with tags , , , , , , , , , , on January 12, 2012 by rachaelwilliams

Potty Mouth February Droog Vs Inxec

O hai epic Potty Mouth line-up. What’s that you say? Inxec has coaxed his LA cohorts Droog over to London town to play with him? And Polish duo Catz N Dogz are in town playing a rare live set? And somehow Danish DJ and producer Noir has been thrown into the mix too??

It’s no surprise that clubbers have been going mental for Droog Vs Inxec‘s tech-house track Westbound. It’s got a dark tone to it with a wonderful build-up that will excite both experienced ravers and those new to the scene. But it’s one of the more deliciously darker track from the Westbound EP, Unhinged, with its melancholic female vocals that’s really what 2012 is going to be about.

Inxec Vs Droog – Unhinged

Catz N Dogz are amazing DJs and with a whole box of tricks from their own record label, Pets Recordings, to delight crowds with, seeing them play out is a treat that London get’s its fair share of (luckily). But how often do we get to hear them play their own stuff? This is no doubt a problem that has been eating away at you for some time and thank god for Potty Mouth to the rescue. Expect choice picks from their latest album Escape From Zoo, maybe even a bit of their recent side project with Soul Clap on Hypercolour’s off-shoot label Glass Table, the wonderfully named Clapz II Dogz (if we’re really lucky), and most certainly recent tracks like Jon Bovi.

Catz N Dogz – Jon Bovi (snippet)

Aside from being one half (the music half) of one of the biiiiigest hits from last year, Noir & Haze – Around, Noir also has one of the most downloaded deep house podcasts going. And when you consider how many DJs and producers are constantly churning out podcasts for our ears, this really is no mean feat. Couple that with the fact that HIS tracks regularly pop up on all those other podcasts and you know you’re in for something a bit special.

Noir – We 2 / Are 1 (snippets)

Get your tickets NOW for the very next Potty Mouth before they all sell out.

Introducing: pplaceholderr

Posted in downtempo, New / Unsigned bands with tags , , , , , , , , on December 13, 2011 by rachaelwilliams

pplaceholderrIn this day and age it’s hard to retain an air of mystery. Most up-and-coming artists are clamouring for attention; desperate to be heard above the din of so much available music. Not so with the enigmatic pplaceholderr, who seems to be a bedroom producer somewhere in surburban America, who’s genuinely a bit shocked that people are liking his music on Facebook.

The thing is, his music is actually fucking beautiful. Standout track Don’t U Know has been remixed by Jacob Korn and found it’s way into Catz N Dogz record box and been played out live on Beatport’s Ustream as a result. Any fan of Catz N Dogz are well aware of their discerning music taste so it’s great they’ve introduced pplaceholderr to the right kind of audience, namely those who are likely to seek out new music as opposed to passively listening.

The music itself has a kind of Koreless, James Blake, Burial, type feel to it, but still something new and exciting enough to make you take notice. The type of music that someone would stick the word “future” in front of a genre just so they were able to describe it.

It’s testament to pplaceholderr’s talent that he confines himself to Soundcloud and Twitter, eschewing Facebook because he “feel[s] like that would be a bit self indulgent” and yet has been getting recognition and support without having played shows. Promoters reading this: BOOK HIM BEFORE ANYONE ELSE DOES.

pplaceholderr – Don’t U Know

Don’t U Know is due for release in early 2012 (hopefully Februrary, according to the man himself) on Space Hardware, a new side-label from UK-based label Hypercolour. It’ll be their first release, on both digital and vinyl. It’ll include the Jacob Korn remix plus another track, Brothers. Definitely one that’ll be worth the wait.

VIDEO: Catz N Dogz Live At Beatport

Posted in House, Live, Video with tags , , , , on November 12, 2011 by rachaelwilliams

Catz N Dogz Logo on Tits

Wednesday afternoon saw Polish duo Catz N Dogz take to the decks at Beatport HQ and play an absolutely blinding set. Beginning at 5pm GMT, it was the type that you thought you could have on in the background whilst you finished up your work but it ended up totally distracting you because of how sick the tunes were, and lo and behold you’ve stayed at the office waaaaay too late just to hear that little bit more. Or maybe that was just me.

It’s a great 2 hour house set that will have you desperate to own nearly all the tracks played, and lucky for us they held up cards with the track names scrawled on to the camera. You don’t need to sit and watch intently for each time one flashes up as they subsequently posted a photo of all the cards on their Facebook and someone’s very kindly filled in any blanks in the comments section. [tracklisting after the jump]

Daytime or pre-party this works and will only make you want to see them live. (You should.)

Watch it now, it’s fucking rad.

Pets Recordings LogoEarly next month sees the digital and vinyl release of the second part of Pets Recordings fantastic compilation Friends Will Carry You Home. With the first part featuring Coat of Arms, Death On The Balcony and label heads Catz N Dogz; one could wonder how this could be bettered. But, there’s a simple answer. By Martin Dawson remixed by Maceo freakin’ Plex, that’s how.

Pets Recordings – Friends Will Carry You Home

So not only have Greg and Voitek of Catz N Dogz released what will undoubtedly be this Autumn’s smash tune on their compilation, which is on part *two* of THREE, but they’ve made this awesome and utterly covet-able canvas bag to go with the compilation. Top work lads, top work.

Want to love them just that little bit more? Check out this totally rad video for Martin Dawson – Think About It feat NRG (Maceo Plex remix) then….

Tanner Ross Remixes Catz N Dogz

Posted in House, remix/cover with tags , , , , , , on August 18, 2011 by rachaelwilliams

Catz N Dogz Escape From Zoo remixesSo this little beaut popped up in my Twitter timeline today and although I’ve got a sneaking suspicion I’m a wee bit late on this, I thought fuckit, I’ll share it anyway. I went to see Polish duo Catz N Dogz last month at Select*Elect and they were brilliant. The whole night was bags of fun, from meeting them at their hotel room and getting chased down Shoreditch High Street by the hotel manager who was insisting that one of them, Voitek, could not just wander off with one of their dressing gowns (He wanted to DJ wearing it. To be honest, it was a pretty fierce look), to dancing my arse off to as much as their set as I could without getting shoved about, and even getting accidentally punched in the face by someone demonstrating how I should shove back. Yeah, it was the kind of night where even getting a fist in the eye feels like fun. Basically, if you get the chance, I highly recommend seeing them as you can be sure they’ll play tons of stuff from their record label Pets Recordings as well as their own stuff.

So Tanner Ross is a name that keeps popping up and I *need* to track down more of. But for now this remix of Catz N Dogz awesome tune ‘Long Way’ off the Escape From Zoo remixes on Mothership is quenching that craving (a bit). The original is pretty dope too so do check that.

Pets Recordings Release Eats Everything

Posted in House with tags , , , , , , , , on July 27, 2011 by rachaelwilliams

Eats EverythingBristol-based producer Dan Pearce aka Eats Everything must be having a bloody brilliant month, with his sublime track Entrance Song making a big splash pretty much everywhere. Released by Pets Recordings, catz n dogz’s label, it has been featured on Maya Jane Coles Essential Mix (actually, one of the highlights of the whole mix for me), appeared in both VisionQuest and Tensnake’s Beatport charts, obviously championed by catz and dogz in their recent DJ sets and heavily promoted by Beatport themselves, riding high in their house chart and bestowed with a large banner which according to Eats Everything’s Fanpage is his first and therefore bonerific. Aww.

Seriously, this track is amazing. And the sounds coming out of Bristol at the moment almost make me want to move back to the West Country. Almost. For now I’m content to dance round my lounge to it on full blast whilst drinking cider. My upstairs neighbour, she’s not so keen. Maybe she doesn’t like the bass?

Anyway have a listen and then GO BUY THIS. This is *the* tune this summer.
