Fur Coat

After breaking the news last January that the tune about cocaine and ketamine you were all so desperately after was by Venezuelan duo Fur Coat we thought it only fair to pin them down for an in-depth chat. And what better time to do so than just before they’re due back in the UK to play Return To The Future 4 for some bank holiday weekend madness. With big-hitters like Seth Troxler and Tale Of Us also on the bill, it’s truly time for Fur Coat to cement their growing reputation here in the UK…

You And I Digital Release TODAY!

Fur Coat - You And I

Still riding high on the months-long hype-wave, Fur Coat’s monster track You And I finally gets a digital release today on Crosstown Rebels. We first broke the news about who the track was actually by back in January, leading to Crosstown boss Damian Lazarus admitting we’d let the “kat out of the bag”.

Fast-forward two long months of waiting and now everyone else (ie. non Crosstown persona and those not vinyl-junkies) can get their dirty mitts on the track and the accompanying Amirali remix.

And the really big news to match this release is that Fur Coat will be hitting up London town for Return To The Future during the upcoming May Bank Holiday with a ridiculous lineup encompassing headliner Seth Troxler AND Tale Of Us AND Luca C of Infinity Ink! Get a ticket now from The Ransom Note before they all disappear.

Introducing: Toky

Toky

Chances are, if you download a lot of deep house podcasts, you’ve already heard Toky. The Hot Since ’82 remix of his track About You is currently making itself known to all and sundry after appearing on Noir’s latest ‘Recommends’ podcast. No surprise there really as it’s due for release on Noir’s label on 30th January. There is another remix by hot tip Fur Coat but it’s the Hot Since ’82 version that’s the big draw here. Pushing what seems to be January’s sound, of deep, down-tempo melancholic house; the remix is the type of track you might miss first time round but then you hear it again and say oh hey what’s that? Then maybe you’ll hear it another time and this time it sticks in your mind. With haunting androgynous vocals coupled with a dirty and deep bassline; it’ll be a 4am killer on the dancefloor for when everyone’s ultra-smashed.

Toky – About You (Hot Since ’82 remix)

Toky’s certainly set for big things this year despite only getting into dance music production last January after a live session with fellow Italian Karm from Tale Of Us. To be on Noir’s label, remixed by two very upcoming acts *and* gained such attention in a year is staggering. And if that weren’t enough, he’s already formed an ace side-project called Superhero with Italian DJ and producer Leon. There’s only a preview available of their new track Drugs And Choices but it’s fucking ace so do check it out. Dry humour laces spoken word lyrics over a sparse beat creating a surprisingly addictive little number.

Superhero – Drugs And Choices (preview)

It’s actually the first track on Toky’s recent Purp & Soul podcast which is well worth a listen and a download. Definitely keep your ears out for more from this man.

Visionquest Beach Collection

Posted in House with tags , , , , on August 8, 2011 by rachaelwilliams

visionquest beach collectionI’ll admit I’ve been enjoying this little Visionquest release for a few weeks now without sharing. So no doubt you’ve all heard by now the ubiquitous Maceo Plex track Falling that kicks off this mini compilation. But the remainder of it makes it worth posting regardless of the time elapsed.

Each track on the collection does fit into the titular ‘beach’ theme but feels dependant on the time of the day you’re heading down to those sandy dunes. The Tale Of Us track has such a deep sense of melancholia to it that you’ve probably hit the scene a little too early and everyone is dying a bit inside as they nurse their head from the night before. But y’know, you’re all in it together so it’s okay. You can imagine Pillow Talk being played mid-afternoon as you enjoy that post-lunch, sleepy-sunshine beer-head that kinda makes you want to nap or at the very least rest your head and smile lots. And Maceo Plex is so clearly that sunset tune that gets you in the mood for the impending evening that for me to point that out seems superfluous to this piece.

These are the tracks that should be soundtracking the rest of your summer. I know they will be mine. Go get them over at Beatport now.

Maceo Plex – Falling

Pillow Talk – Love Makes Parks

Tale Of Us – Winds Of Change
