Coat of Arms mix

Posted in Club Night, House, mix, We are not a rock band with tags , , , , , , , , , , on April 3, 2012 by Red Ben

It’s nearly the Easter Bank Holiday! And it looks like it’s gonna be a messy one here in London – there are loads of great parties going on over the four day weekend, such as the dirtybird showcase and the Ostgut Ton warehouse party. The one we’re most looking forward to though is an intimate party in a warehouse in deepest Hackney with our friends at Potty Mouth. On the bill are Coat of Arms, Waifs & StraysWiLDKATS, and our very own HazMat.  Tickets are nearly sold out and it looks set to be another stomper!

Coat of Arms have a unique DJ style, something a bit different to the deep house mania that’s gripped everyone for the last year or so. They’ve done a melodic, bumpin’ house mix for the party, you can listen and download it here:

Coat Of Arms - Promo Mix For Potty Mouth

To find out the venue address for the Beaster party this Thursday you’ll have to email Potty Mouth and ask them nicely, as it’s limited capacity and they’re keeping the venue pretty secret for this one.

When WANARB Met: Benoit & Sergio

Posted in House, Interviews with tags , , , , on September 13, 2011 by rachaelwilliams

Benoit & SergioTransatlantic duo Benoit & Sergio have been making me go all fluttery-eyed with their dreamy brand of pop-laced house since early this year. With stand-out tracks Walk And Talk, Boy Trouble having crossover appeal, it’s no wonder they’ve just got ever more popular. I caught up with them ahead of their performance at the Phonica Warehouse Party next month to find out the things that really matter, y’know, like zombies and films and sega, oh and a bit about music too…

Phonica 8th Birthday Party

Posted in Club Night, mix, podcast, Warehouse Party with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 25, 2011 by rachaelwilliams

If my excitement for the impending Eastern Electrics at Suffolk Street Warehouse this weekend wasn’t enough, it turns out that the awesome 3-arched venue will be playing host to Soho record store Phonica’s 8th birthday soon as well. Taking place on the first weekend of October, it boasts a line-up so exquisite that it makes me a bit dizzy just to look at it. Putting Leftroom’s Matt Tolfrey and Radio 1′s In New DJs We Trust’s Heidi charge of an arch each to complement the Phonica-curate arch was basically a stroke a genius.

It goes without saying that my inner-fangirl is barely able to breathe at the possibility of seeing Benoit & Sergio, Soul Clap, Visionquest and Joy Orbison in one night (basically if there is any serious clashing, I will actually cry). Check out the full, amazing lineup over at the Facebook Event and then make sure you get your ticket now as word on the street is they’re going fast.

In the meantime, ease yourself slowly into the casual brutality of another bank holiday weekend with the more recent Crosstown Rebels podcast from Shaun Reeves of Visionquest. Standout moments come from Jimpster’s remix of David K’s 73 Tomtom Avenue and Denis Kurtel – Best Of. But hey, let’s be honest, I’m just a sucker for a mix that kicks off with Pillow Talk – Love Makes Parks.

SLACKK is one of the new wave of DJ-producers influenced by the Acid House and breakbeat Hardcore sound. Now signed to Numbers, Slackk has found himself labelmates with the likes of Jamie xx, Jackmaster, Deadboy, Hudson Mohawke and Lory D and judging by the reaction to his first release ‘Theme From Slackk’, he’s going to be just as big very soon. We’ve seen first hand what Slackk can do to a dancefloor when he played at our warm-up party in July, so we know any tune he plays is guaranteed to leave you gasping for more, which is great because he’s playing at the next SOCIETY with Number head-honcho Jackmaster. WANARB caught up with SLACKK to ask him a few questions and get his top 5 acid tracks.

Want to be an extra in a New British Movie about Raving?

Posted in Old School, Uncategorized, Warehouse Party with tags , , on September 22, 2010 by Knockturnal

Momentum pictures are currently filming a new movie based around the Acid House explosion which took Britain by storm in the late 80′s / Early 90′s and are looking for extras to take part in the rave scenes.

It’s 1990 and the rave scene has arrived from Ibiza. Warehouse parties are exploding across the UK, bringing phenomenal wealth to the promoters.

In Manchester, best mates Matt and Dylan are in their early 20’s and long to be more than just punters. As the government moves to outlaw the scene, it’s now or never for our would-be promoters and they know exactly how it should be done.
But as their success continues to grow they begin to attract the dark and sinister attention of the Manchester gangs, forcing Matt and Dylan to question their dreams and their once solid friendship.

WEEKENDER stars three of the hottest young talents in the UK.

Jack O’Connell (SKINS, EDEN LAKE)
Henry Lloyd-Hughes (THE INBETWEENERS)
Emily Barclay (IN MY FATHER’S DEN, SUBURBAN MAYHEM)

This saturday is the last day for filming so if you want to take part in a piece of history and what’s sure to be an iconic film for the rave generation get yourselves down to the Warehouse on Warburton Street, Hackney, London E8 3RT (Map Link, entrance on Sidworth Street), just to the east of London Fields. Food will be supplied as well as free drinks from Red Bull and Kopparberg Cider and everyone attending will be invited to an exclusive preview of the film prior to it’s UK release.  As it’s set in 1990 it’s important that what you wear reflects the period. For further details and a list of suitable 90′s attire click here. There’s no need to register, just come along and bring your mates!

Introducing: Retro/Grade

Posted in 8-Bit, Bootleg / Mash-up, disco, electro, Techno, We are not a rock band with tags , , , , , on August 6, 2010 by Montagano

Tom Neville and Serge Santiago are the latest producers to have joined forces to become a ‘super duo’, and now go by the name of Retro/Grade. The sound they’ve created stands out like a sore thumb – contemporary yet retro at the same time. Picture NES computer games being muddled with Disco and Techno and you’re on the right tracks. We’re loving this sound – and a whole host of top guns are waxing lyrical about them too.

We’re only allowed give you this track, in fact we can’t even stream either of the tracks they’ve actually released. Sad face. It’s all very cloak and dagger you see. HOWEVER – check out the video for Moda below!

They’ve given us this cheeky little bootleg they made where they stuck Herbie Hancock’s ‘Rockit’ onto their track, ‘Pulsar’, which you can grab for free below! Pulsar is a badass by the way, I played it at our party on Sat and it went off. Go listen to (and buy) the full release here.

RETRO/GRADE - Pulsar (Herbie Hancock Rockit Bootleg)

Very much looking forward to more from this duo.
