Modeselektor – Cash

Posted in disco, downtempo, Dubstep, electro, New Music, We are not a rock band with tags , , , on July 20, 2010 by Montagano

Yet more downtempo shiz, this time in the form of Modeselektor’s incredible ‘Cash’. For me, this tempo is the way forward, regardless of whether it’s camp italo disco, or bass warbling dirt such as this one. I’ve had Cash on repeat for a couple of weeks now, can’t get enough of it.

If you wanna see Modeselektor live, you can catch them at Field Day in Victoria Park (Hackney) on Saturday 31st July. Hmmm…. That date rings a bell. I wonder if there are any decent parties going on AFTER Field Day?? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Whilst on the subject of both downtempo beats and parties – are there any budding DJ’s out there that specialise in 110bpm disco/techno (I don’t yet know what the genre name is). If so, please send us a mix at promotions@wearenotarockband.com – we are planning some big parties and YOU could feature heavily…

We’re having a Warehouse Party!

Posted in Club Night, Warehouse Party, We are not a rock band with tags , , , , on July 12, 2010 by Knockturnal

While there maybe rain this morning, you’ve got to admit, it’s been a pretty awesome summer so far? So awesome in fact that we thought it was worth celebrating, so we’re throwing another warehouse party, this time at new Shoreditch underground venue ‘The Basement’. Our last party was one-in one-out by midnight – meaning that loads of people couldn’t get in. This time, we’ve got a bigger venue to fit all you crazy kids in, but we would advise you to buy a ticket in case it’s a similar scenario!

You can buy tickets from here.

We’ve enlisted the services of some MEGA DJ’s – those of you who follow the blog are probably already aware of them – those who aren’t, we can assure you – they’re amazing. Here’s a bit of info on them:

BURNS

Traveling to us straight from his main stage slot at Global Gathering the very same day, Glasgow-born Burns combines the feel good factor of disco with the pounding intensity of electro. Citing acts as diverse as D Train, Daft Punk, Cassius and Donna Summer as some of his main influences, Burns’ sound is gaining him a lot of attention from both music titles and clubbers alike. His collaboration with French electronic master Fred Falke, ‘You’ve Stopped Loving Me’ is hotly tipped to be one the biggest anthems in both Ibiza and the UK this summer. Furthermore, the recently released European Sex Music compilation has been rewarded with rave reviews, and one of his tracks was selected by Kelis to feature on her latest album, Flesh Tone.

Burns did an exclusive mix for us back in May, if you missed it first time around you can grab it here.

DISCO OF DOOM

Disco of Doom are London-based DJ and production duo Tom Real and Ben Medcalf. The duo deliver sick electro / techno bangers, and are fast becoming some of the most sought after remixers around. The kind of stuff we’ve been hearing them produce recently is incredible, and if they’re not well known by the end of the year we’ll eat our collective hats. Seriously, you need to hear some of their tracks. They’ll blow you away.

Disco of Doom are putting together an exclusive mix for us this week, so keep your eyes peeled for when that drops. We also have an exclusive track to give you which will probably go up today or tomorrow. Until then check out their Sound cloud, they’ve recently uploaded a tonne of new tracks and they’re Sick. As. Hell.

With support from Bark Matter and our own We Are Not a Rock Band DJ’s this is going to be one party you don’t want to miss!

Advance tickets are available here and are selling fast, early bird tickets are just £5!

Ray Mang mix

Secretsundaze’s party tonight is being held at a new secret warehouse location somewhere in Dalston – it’s  so secret, not even WANARB know where it is yet (it’s actually more likely no one told me). But we do know that whilst the  ‘Sundaze crew will be in room 1 with Morgan Geist, Nina Kraviz, Giles Smith and James  Priestley, room 2 will  be taken over by record label Electric Minds. Of their line-up a certain Mr. Ray Mang has me most excited.

Ray Mang is the alter-ego of Raj Gupta. Under his Ray Mang alias, Gupta creates, releases and plays anything goes disco-centric party music for collectors, dancers, enthusiasts and Jocks alike. His inspiration stems from the extended disco mixes, dub versions and edits of people such as Larry Levan, Walter Gibbons, Daniele Baldelli, Tee Scott, Began Cekic and Tom Moulton. He also calls upon the open minded music policies of some of the pioneering early clubs such as the Paradise Garage, the Loft and the Italian Cosmic parties for inspiration. The latest Ray Mang single ‘Bullet Proof’ featuring vocals from Lady Miss Kier and backed with ‘Look Into My Eyes’ was recently been released by uber-coolers DFA! The cosmic disco revival continues.
Here’s an eggs-cellent mix he did for the guys over at Cool In The Pool. Take it as a lil’ Easter gift from me.

Highlights of our first year…

Man, it’s been over a week and I haven’t even had the chance to thank everyone for coming along to our warehouse party! I’M SORRY GUYS – THANKS FOR MAKING IT SUCH A SPECIAL NIGHT!!! Work has been a joke this last week – I had done 40 hours by the afternoon on Wednesday…

ANYWAY – what an amazing night it was! Apologies to those who couldn’t get in, we were 40 over capacity by 12.30 – meaning that even those who had bought tickets were getting turned away (if you would like a refund, please email me direct – matt@wearenotarockband.com and I’ll sort it out for you). Writers, best pals, pr’s and anyone on the guest list also suffered the same fate. Lesson learned? Bigger venue next time. Either way – different venue next time – we had LOADS of problems with the club. They kept turning the music down to a point where you could talk over it at some points! WTF?! Fear not – there won’t be the same problem at our next party…

So, that’s our first year done! And what a year was – starting off as a one man ‘band‘, We Are Not a Rock Band has grown into a blog with around 15 writers – and counting. I made a little compilation CD of the highlights from our first year, which you download if you click below!
