The knife in a new collaboration with Mt. Sims and Planningtorock

Due to the general festive crap I have been very  quiet of late, but alas my new years resolution is to write more and so here I go!

Fresh of the press it has been revealed that one of my favourite artists EVER The Knife are to release the studio version of the opera ‘Tomorrow in a Year’, in collaboration with Mt. Sims and Planningtorock on March 1st of this year.

Commissioned by Danish performance group Hotel Pro Forma to write the music for their opera based on Charles Darwin and his book ‘On the Origin of the Species’, The Knife decided to make this a collaborative process, working with artists Mt. Sims and Planningtorock for the first time, to capture the huge width of the Darwin and evolution theme. They extensively researched Darwin related literature and articles, with Olof attending a field recording workshop in the Amazon to find inspiration and to record sounds.” (Taken from the Fever Ray blog).

The Knife never cease to amaze me. They are to me personally, the most inspiring and thought provoking musical artists out there, and have been for quite a while. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m usually a bang on techno/disco bitch straight through to my glittering core, but there’s something so haunting and beautiful about these truly enigmatic creations that whenever I hear them I leave my dancing shoes at the door, and just sit and let the dark beauty absorb me (god listen to me! I’m even making myself want to puke!)

Anyway here’s the first track  from the album, ‘The Colouring of pidgeons’, in a word, beautiful, and it goes rather nicely with the snow blanketed country outside. I do hope you like, but there’s a high chance that you may not.

Give Planningtorock a listen too- she’s a girl from Bolton who now lives in Berlin and is a weirdo electronic auteur… like our very own Karin!

I ♥ Planningtorock, if you like her you should check out Kat Boeleskov another slightly eccentric music lady, I love these crazy gals, I wish they would all group together and slaughter lady gaga and gallivant around wearing her skin as a cape like buffalo Bill!
