WAVY Special Party @ The Alibi

Posted in 80's, Acid house, Bass, Club Night, House, mix, Old School, We are not a rock band with tags , , , , , , , on July 29, 2011 by 4th level zombie

Stuck with nothing to do this weekend? You really shouldn’t be if you are reading this and live in London. However, if you’re still clueless I can recommend that you head down to Dalston Dive bar – The Alibi – to hear a one-off special from club night WAVY!

Not heard of WAVY? It’s a very rare offshoot of Wifey, a DJ collective that has thrown some of London’s most intense nights of bassline, garage, funky and grime since 2008, hosting everyone from Slimzee to B15 Project to James Blake to Pantha and many, many more. WAVY is a whole other sound though. Best to put it in their own words, eh?

WAVY is essentially a night to embrace the totally unexpected journey of early boogie, through the synthesizer- and drum machine-heavy sound of the 80s, to the sweat-soaked walls of Detroit electro clubs in the mid-90s

Alongside WAVY residents S Shaw and RK will be three secret DJ’s, two of which will be from the excellent Numbers record label. Unfortunately I can’t reveal who they are but trust me you wont be disappointed. They will also be joined by MJE of old skool garage night ‘Days Like That‘ fame. This elaborate collection of DJ’s adds up to a musically intriguing night where you can expect rarely-played collections of boogie, electrofunk, freestyle, new jack swing, acid and super fast Detroit ‘jit’ electro!

To get you in the mood check out this boogie mix from WAVY resident S Shaw.

This tunage your kinda of thing? Well, you’ll get a chance to hear the Wifey crew playing at the next SOCIETY warehouse party on the 12th of August alongside legends like Trevor Fung, Colin Dale, Kenny Ken, Top Buzz and established acts like Jackmaster, Slackk and Rattus Rattus. CTDK – New Mixtape and Remix

Posted in Bass, Dirt, electro, mix, New Music, Noise, remix/cover, Techno with tags , , , , , , , , , on July 29, 2011 by 4th level zombie

It’s been too long between Clash The Disko Kids posts. Probably my fault but thankfully CTDK have released their summer mixtape and as always it’s techno gold. Bucking the trend of normal summer mixtapes which are usually bright and cheery, it seems the CTDK crew have gone all dark and sinister, maybe Asia is having a gloomy British Summer too?

CTDK – Summer Mixtape 2011

Thankfully this tight 46 minute mixtape will evaporate all those summer blues, as CTDK bounce along in their usual frantic style to bring us a mixtape containing future and newly released stompers from the likes of STSB & Saalmen, Noize generation and an absolute belter of a remix from Souvnger on Pulpalicious’s ‘Bodytalk’.

One To Watch: Patrick Di Stefano

patrick di stefanoIn all honesty, I don’t know very much about Patrick Di Stefano. I do know he’s from Torino, and…. well, actually that’s it. Okay, the basis of my knowledge on him rests on this one killer track I’ve heard that I absolutely need to share. Much like the Eats Everything track I blogged earlier, I first heard Underlight on the Maya Jane Coles Essential Mix. In fact, those two tracks (plus an unreleased MJC track I have yet to find a name for) really shone out far above the rest of the mix.

Underlight is a proper stomper, hence why I’m playing it to you on a Friday. You *need* to listen to this before going out tonight. Maybe I’m just a sucker for anything vaguely progressive but how can you not want to go out dancing after listening to this?

Renaissance Man to release debut album

Posted in downtempo, House with tags , , , , , , on July 28, 2011 by rachaelwilliams

Finnish duo Renaissance Man have anounced this week that they are to finally release their debut album The Renaissance Man Project later this year on Turbo. It’s a fitting home for them with their dark, broody, bleepy house sound.

Having remixed the likes of Brodinski, Delphic, Tiga, Crookers, Crystal Fighters, Azari & III, WhoMadeWho and, their most recent remix for The Touch – Sermon being pretty spectacular, it’s great that they are doing their own thing as well now. Let’s be fair, anyone who can make cowbells sound cool is going to have a pretty interesting and distinctive sound.

As I’ve mentioned before, their Midsummer Mix has been one of my favourites this summer and I honestly can’t wait to see them play at Eastern Electrics come the end of the month. I can only hope I remember more of this bank holiday’s Southwark shenanigans than I did the last. Staying off the Red Stripe will probably be a good start towards that.

NT89 – Tyme

Posted in Dirt, electro, mix, New Music, remix/cover, Techno, We are not a rock band with tags , , , , , on July 27, 2011 by 4th level zombie

If you havent heard of NT89, I’m not surprised. Although Italy is bursting with amazing producers, it seems that NT89 – real name Nima tahmasebi, hence the NT – has been quietly going about his business. He recently burst into the international scene at the beginning of this year with remix work on Steve Aoki’s mix album and signing for PIE artists management family in the states. This was quickly followed up with a live UK debut with Shadowdancer and Autokratz who he joined at this years 1,2,3,4 festival in Shoreditch along with Zombie Nation.

This is not to say he was being a lazy bum before 2011; with three EP’s already under his belt across different labels including Fatboy Slim’s Southern fried recordings, he was already on an upwards trajectory. Before that, NT89 had also remixed for ZZT’s ‘The Worm’, Zombie Nations ‘Worth it’ and Tiga’s ‘Mind Dimension’. And all this was completed whilst being sound assistant to Bloody Beetroots no less. So yeah fairly busy.

On August 8th his new label home, Gang Bang Recordings, is due to release his 4th EP – Tyme Mixture – Featuring the tracks Tyme, Lyfe and Syne. To add the hype of this release, NT89 mixed his original track and the two remixes into one long preview which you can hear below.

NT89 – Tyme (original mix into Das Glow Remix into Djedjotronic Remix)

And to stoke the publicity fire even higher, NT89 added a neat little mix just yesterday. Subtle.

Nicolas Jaar @ Fabric : 27th & 28th July 2011

Posted in Electronica, Gigs with tags , , , , , on July 27, 2011 by ezray

As far as last minute plans go, here’s a good one:  Head to Fabric and give in to Nicolas Jaar’s demands.

Back in June, with my claws ready, I clamoured over tall and big strangers, best friends and one boyfriend to see him play at Sonar by Day… but to no avail. The young man’s presence and the early birds didn’t leave enough room for lil’ old me to see the gig. SO tonight (or tomorrow night!) is THE night.

It’s a fucking good opportunity to get entangled in exciting music stitched together intelligently.

Tonight’s gig, 27th July is accompanied by Valentin Stip and Gadi Mizrahi, while tomorrow, 28th July features all of the above plus Soul Clap.

I thought I was pretty excited for this London Electronic night, but those Soul Clap dudes seem pretty eager too:

“Can’t wait for the thrills and chills. With this group of artists new ground is constantly being broken live in the moment. So glad to be aboard this musical roller coaster.” – Soul Clap.

See you bitches there.
