When Justice, (AKA Gaspard Auge and Xavier de Rosnay) released ‘Cross’ in summer ’07, they created a musical frenzy that propelled them to stardom. Their heyday ran from summer 2007 and tailed off in 2009, but for that short period of time, they were the hottest act on the planet. Little wonder then that their long awaited return has been such a hot topic of discussion.
Undeniably, music is not as it was back then; the scene they helped put on the map has decayed, French electro is all but forgotten, and it’s clear that Justice would need to adapt if they want to get even a sniff of that stardom back. However, one thing that stands in their favour, is that they are incredibly talented songwriters – just think of all the remixes they did of their own tracks in their live shows.
So what’s the consensus on their new single ‘Civilization’? The best way to describe it is that it’s an electro rock symphony. It kicks off very much like ‘Killing in the name’, but quickly drops in with the trademark stompy beats that we know and love(d). Where it wins for me however, is the chorus – it has a real anthemic, sing-a-long feel to it. Vocal-led electro rock tracks are going to be the way forward for these guys (they are rockers after all), and here, with the help of Ali Love, they’ve created a feel-good anthem that you’ll have stuck in your head long after it’s ended. It certainly gets my vote.
Welcome back Justice.
Civilization was released April 4th, you can go buy it at iTunes.
Ahead of his performance at XOYO last Saturday, Ed Banger boss Pedro Winter (AKA Busy P) found some time in his busy schedule to chat to WANARB. This is the guy who managed Daft Punk for 10 years, discovered Justice and is the head honcho of the seminal French electronic label ‘Ed Banger’ – home to the likes of Mr Oizo, SebastiAn, Uffie, DJ Medhi, Carte Blanche, Cassius and many more. He is quite possibly the most influential man French electronic music has ever seen.
So what does he have to say for himself?? Read on…
Part of me wants to hide away for the next eight weeks. Just so I don’t look, or listen to any more snippets from the Tron soundtrack and movie (for fear of over saturation). But then the other parts are just yelling MORE, MORE, MORE! Which is just as well, as tomorrow I get to see a 20 minute preview at the IMAX – OH MY DAYS! I’M SO EXCITED!
Check out the new trailer below which looks all kinds of awesome, featuring not just Daft Punk’s latest track ‘Derezzed’, but also the boys themselves… Enjoy!
Ok so I’m a day late with this, but I thought it was worth a post regardless. Yesterday saw the first official image released of Daft Punk from the new Tron movie ‘Tron Legacy’ (it’s been rumoured for a while now that the robotic duo will be making a cameo appearance in the movie) along with a snippet of one of their new tracks “The Game Has Changed” from the highly anticipated Soundtrack.
Epic. Epicness! I think I just had a nerdgasm?! Check it out below, the new album drops December 7th (with the movie being released Boxing Day here in the UK) and we’re very, very excited!
So some tracks appeared on Fairtiliser last week, claiming to be from the score of the new Tron movie (which, for those of you who’ve been locked in a cupboard for the last year, has been made by the demi-gods that are Daft Punk). Over the past year, numerous tracks have been leaked claiming to be the work of Daft Punk – we actually fell for one of them here. We’re pretty much resigned to the fact that we’ll just have to wait until later for the film to come out before we get a good earful of the soundtrack, but for now we can at least debate over these. Surely this has to be THE most anticipated movie soundtrack of all time??
So – click below, take a listen and see what you think. It’s pretty eerie, movie type stuff – and is pretty hard to tell whether it’s actually Daft Punk or not.
One thing that COULD come out of them doing the soundtrack for Tron (I’m actually praying for this), is that they might embark on one more world tour in 2011! If they do, you can bet your balls we shall be there in numbers.
Finally – for all you die hard fans out there – we have an amazing little treat for you. Whilst on Facebook the other day I spotted this INCREDIBLE link. This you have to watch. It’s Daft Punk playing a gig 15 years ago. I shit you not. No suits, no helmets. It’s amazing.
15 years ago they were doing this. 15 years ago I had long hair and was listening to grunge.
