Like the title says Tiga’s back with a new track ‘Trust Your Body’ getting released this week on his label Turbo Recordings! The track was created with help with Finland’s own Jori Hulkkonen, one of the most underrated producers in the world! With just about two decades under his belt the man has become a living legend working with the likes of José González, Jesper Dahlbäck, Chromeo and a shit ton more!

He also has a pretty cool last name.

But wait there’s more…

ZZT – Partys over Los Angeles

Posted in New Music, Techno with tags , , , , , , , , on October 4, 2011 by 4th level zombie

After more than a year since the brutal Zzafrika dropped, ZZT are back with another jacking tune to blister your ears off thanks to the release of party’s over Los Angles on Turbo recordings. Unfortunately you’ll have to wait until the 25th of October before you get your grubby mits all over it, but what’s another 21 days when you’ve already had to wait a year for this production?

Black Strobe – Italian Fireflies (Richy Ahmed and Corey Baker re-edit)

Posted in anthem, Deep House, disco, electro, We are not a rock band with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on September 22, 2011 by Montagano

Way back 2003, Blackstrobe were part of a small movement of people who were creating raw, ‘post-apocalyptic electronic music’. At the time, house music was going off the boil – filtered French house was old news, hard house was all raved out, and funky house was, well, funky house. This underground movement known as ‘electro’ made house music cool to play in clubs once again.

Unsurprisingly, the French scene had a large hand in its growth, and Black Strobe, founded in 1997 by Arnaud Rebotini and Ivan Smagghe, were at the forefront of it. They were churning out electro monsters such as “Innerstring”, “Me And Madonna”, “Chemical Sweet Girl” and “Italian Fireflies”, paving the way for the legends such as Justice, SebastiAn, Mehdi, MSTRKRFT, Digitalism, Fake Blood, Tiga etc. etc. to blossom.

ANYWAY – there’s actually a reason why I’m waxing lyrical about Black Strobe: Richy Ahmed and Corey Baker have brought Italian Fireflies back to life with an ACE, deep disco re-edit. I can’t get enough of this track.

And for nostalgia – here’s the original. All time classic.

Renaissance Man to release debut album

Posted in downtempo, House with tags , , , , , , on July 28, 2011 by rachaelwilliams

Finnish duo Renaissance Man have anounced this week that they are to finally release their debut album The Renaissance Man Project later this year on Turbo. It’s a fitting home for them with their dark, broody, bleepy house sound.

Having remixed the likes of Brodinski, Delphic, Tiga, Crookers, Crystal Fighters, Azari & III, WhoMadeWho and, their most recent remix for The Touch – Sermon being pretty spectacular, it’s great that they are doing their own thing as well now. Let’s be fair, anyone who can make cowbells sound cool is going to have a pretty interesting and distinctive sound.

As I’ve mentioned before, their Midsummer Mix has been one of my favourites this summer and I honestly can’t wait to see them play at Eastern Electrics come the end of the month. I can only hope I remember more of this bank holiday’s Southwark shenanigans than I did the last. Staying off the Red Stripe will probably be a good start towards that.

Gesaffelstein at Potty Mouth Disco

Posted in Club Night, Dirt, Techno, Warehouse Party, We are not a rock band with tags , , , , , , , , , on April 19, 2011 by Montagano

The latest installment of Potty Mouth is almost upon us, and this is arguably one of their finest lineup’s to date.

Along our very own HazMat, DJ’s on the night are: Gesaffelstein, Thomas Von Party (Tiga’s brother), Kolsch, Mugwump and all the usual PMD residents. This Turbo Recordings vs Kompakt themed evening is gonna be one of the highlights of this Easter weekend, make sure you get your tickets soon cos they’re selling fast!

Headliner on the night, Gesaffelstein (real name Mike Levy), hails from Paris and is creating a massive stir right now. He’s not been around for long, but with each production and remix he’s gaining a reputation for making no nonsense, in-your-face techno.

Here’s what people are saying about him (I think they sum it up better than I ever would):

With more than a nod to vintage electro, it took the techno template and stamped stacatto basslines, ‘hands-in-the-air’ cowbells, and catchy arpeggiated acid-ish synth hooks all over the tracks.

Sounds good huh? A lot of it reminds me of the early days of electro house – when Black Strobe were firing on all cylinders.

Here are some of his tracks. Booming. Seeing as all of his tracks are banging, it was hard to pick these… Check out some of his other stuff – you won’t be disappointed!
