But ask me to how to get there and I’ll only be able to provide this: “We started off in Hoxton Square, then….ehrm..yeah.” Just don’t allow my sense of direction to guide you, and trust that there definitely was an ample area of green. Six hectares of green. For you international lot, that means nothing, but indulge me some humour and imagine yourself in a semi-derelict/fairly regenerated neighbourhood loitered by most walks of life (though weighing heavily on artsy fartsy beauts wanting their post code to reflect their creativity, and then some). In this Hackney Bubble the park of choice is usually London Fields or Victoria Park. Furthermore, there are loads of buildings, boutiques, cafes or kickin’ bars that run (a street or two away) parallel to the outskirts of Shoreditch Park. So whoddathunk there’d be six hectares of space for several of us jokers to dance, smoke, drink, eat and generally run amok??
XOYO continues to get in awesome promotors week after week, next saturday (12th Feb) is no exception. The Plump DJ’s have joined forces with Lock ‘n’ Load events (SW4/Together) to bing you ‘Grand Hotel’ a new night and extension of the Plump’s acclaimed record label, which features a line up hand picked by the guys themselves.
Saturday 23rd October was my first visit to XOYO, which seems to have followed in the footsteps of CAMP, providing a decent live music venue in Shoreditch. It certainly has sparked our interest here, with James Yuill playing recently, The Knocks to follow in a few weeks time, and acts such as Egyptian Hip Hop and Kap Bambino having previously graced the stage. Saturday was all about DJ’s rather than bands though, as XOYO played host to Bugged Out’s 16th Birthday Party, and boasted a head line set from the legend that is Erol Alkan.
The last time I saw Erol Alkan play was back in Jan 2008 at The End. I don’t remember much from that night, thankfully this time I remember much or my writing would end…..about…..here.
Following their sold out, road blocked Easter special at Heaven Neon Noise Project returns Saturday October 2nd with a killer line up at brand spanking new central London club XOYO. With live performances from We Have Band and Human Life, and DJ sets from Surkin (Institubes), Punks Jump Up (Kitsune) and DJ Feadz (Ed Banger) in the main room, expect catchy vocal hooks, dirty bass lines, stunning synths and speaker spanking electro! Whilst in room 2 the future disco beats are brought to you by The C90’s + Tronik Youth of Relish Records and resident duo Jerry Bouthier and Andrea Gorerino.
We have two pairs of tickets to give away, to be in with a chance of winning answer the following question.
DJ Feadz is signed to Ed banger records, but who is the label Boss?
A) Busy P
B) Busy Q
C) Busy R
Once you’ve done that just email your answer to email@example.com with ‘Neon Noise Comp’ in the subject line. Closing date for the entries is Friday 1st October 2010 at midday. Winners will be picked at random and notified by email.
